Markha Trek

One of the famous and a common trek route is Markha Trek. Here the valleys you pass through are one of the isolated in Ladakh. To feel the complete isolation from the busy road and busy life and do some easy trek, we recommend this trek. Rumbak village from where you pass on the first day of trek is famous for either snow leopard appearance or their footprints in winter. (Options: You can choose Camping or Home stay)

Tour Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrival at Leh airport.Whole day rest for acclimatization.
  • Coming straight to the altitude of min 3,200 m from a much lower place can cause some health problems. So to avoid that, we suggest our guest to take complete rest for a day to get acclimatized. Later there will be a briefing of the program by the agent or by the company representative.
  • Day 2 : Leh SightSeeing.
  • Second day is good to get out doing some sightseeing because you are already acclimatized. So we will Start by visiting Hemis and Thiksey monastery at first and then Stok palace after a hot lunch at Chamba restaurant. O/N in Hotel
  • Day 3 : Leh to Zingchen drive and trek till Yurutse.
  • It's a gradual climb from Zinchen to Rumbak. From here you can enjoy the fabulous views of the snow capped Stok Mountains. We will move along the Rumbak Nala towards Yurutse. At Yurutse village you will find fields of barley and potatoes. O/N in Camp/Home stay.
  • Day 4 : Yurutse to Skyu Via Gandala pass(4,900m).
  • A gradual ascent followed by a steep climb gets one to the Ganda la (4900 M). From here views extend south to the Zanskar range and distant summits of the Himalayan range. This is followed by a long descent to Shingo village. From Shingo the trail heads into a narrow gorge leading towards Skyu. At Skyu there is a confluence of the rivers coming from Markha valley and Shingo. O/N in Camp/ Home stay.
  • Day 5 : Skyu to Markha.
  • It's a very pleasant hike, up the Markha valley today with the trail crossing numerous streams. Markha is a quaint village with a deserted fort and a small village. O/N in Camp/ Home stay.
  • Day 6 : Markha to Thoachungtse.
  • From Markha the country changes and the warm, relatively heavily wooded sections of the lower Markha is left behind. We might need to cross the river several times as there are no bridges here. Hanker, en route, is the highest village in the Markha valley. O/N in Camp/ Home stay..
  • Day 7 :Thoachungtse to Nyimaling
  • Trek starts on a good path with several small inclines and a series of grassy ridges. There are a series of mani walls (walls carved with Buddhist prayers) and chortens en route. This is one of the most beautiful high valleys in Ladakh and is dominated by the Kangyatse peak. O/N in Camp/ Home stay.
  • Day 8 : Nimaling to Chuskyurmo via Kongmaru la pass (5,100m).
  • After breakfast start trekking to reach Kongmaru La (5100m). The trek to Kongmaru-La passes through narrow gorges. At the top of the pass, you can get the view of the Ladakh range and the villages of the Indus valley to the north. Cross the pass and proceed to Chuskyurmo. O/N at Camp/ Home stay.
  • Day 9 : Chuskyurmo to Shang Sumdo pickup.
  • The last day of the trek is till Shang Sumdo which will take around three hours . We will be picked up by car at the place form where we will be driven to Himis Monastery before proceeding to Leh.Overnight at hotel.
  • Day 10 : Rest and shopping.
  • Last day is free for you to shop around. You can visit Shanti Stupa afterwards. In the evening there will be a cultural show on demand. O/N at Hotel.
  • Day 11 : Departure
