Pathar Saheb

Pathar Sahib Gurdwara, is a beautiful Gurudwara located in the west of Leh, Ladakh,northern India. About 25 miles away from Leh, on the right side of Leh Srinagar Highway, Altitude of 3657mt (12000 ft) above sea level. Pathar Sahib Gurdwara is constructed in the memory of Guru Nanak Dav Ji. The Gurdwara was built in 1517 to commemorate the visit to the Ladakh region of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder Guru of the Sikhism. During his lifetime Guru Nanak Dev travelled to many remote places and one such place was Ladakh Tibet.

History

During the construction of the Leh-Nimu road in the late 1970s, a large boulder was found by Lamas in the middle of the road bed covered with Buddhists prayer flags. Huge rock was covered with Buddhist prayer flags, strung by Buddhist Lamas, along mountain ridges and peaks high in the Himalayas to bless the surrounding countryside. When the bulldozer driver tried to push the huge rock to the side, but it refused to move. Gunning the engine he pushed the powerful machine to its limits, but the boulder refused to give way. That night driver had a dream in which a voice told him not to move the rock. In the morning driver narrated his dream to one of the Army officers who guard the mountain passes of Ladakh. The Army officer told him, not to give any importance to the dream. When all efforts to remove the boulder gone failed, it was decided to blow it apart with dynamite the next day. That night Army officer surprise that he too had a dream not to remove the stone. He also decided the dream should be ignored, but early morning, being Sunday, he and the workers were visited by several Lamas and other Ladhakhi who came to tell them the story of a Holy Saint, called Nanak Lama and the unyielding boulder. Near to Gurudwara Pathar Sahib Magnetic Hill –the Magnetic Hill lures visitors from all over the world. The place is a must-visit for defying the laws of gravity.It is 3 kms away from Pathar Sahib Gurudwara, one of the top attractions in Leh.
