Pangong Tso

Pangong Lake (Pangong Tso) Which means "high grassland lake", its located at 223 kms from Leh, is an endorheic lake in the Himalayas situated at a height of about 4,350 m is the world's highest saltwater lake.Approximately 40% of the length of the lake lies in Ladakh, India. The Pangong lake is 5 km wide at its broadest point. All together it covers 604 km. In winter the lake freezes completely, despite being briny water.The beauty of Pangong Lake cannot be described in words. It has to be felt and absorbed within yourself.

Pangong Lake can be reached in a 4-5 hours drive from Leh town, most of it on a rough and dramatic mountain road. The road crosses the villages of Karu and Sakti and traverses the Chang La (17590 ft), where army sentries and a small teahouse greet visitors. The road down from Chang La leads through Tangste Durbuk and other smaller villages, crossing a river called Pagal Nala or "The Crazy Stream". The best time to visit Pangong Lake from May to September.

The route to Pangong Lake as beautiful as the lake itself full of enjoyment. To get a glimpse of this beauty and Landscape, stop about 10 km from Pangong lake, if you are coming from Leh. On the way one can see the rare endemic species Marmot. Marmots are large squirrels which are found in mountainous areas and reside in burrows.We all are part of this Nature so, any moment don't try to scared wild animals. Although being quite dodgy, they do come out from their potholes during the day, so there is a good chance of watching them.

Inner Line Permit

An Inner Line Permit is required to visit the Pangong lake, the tourist office in Leh issues the permits for a small fee. Therefore, Indians and Foreigners both will need to obtain an inner line permit for visiting this place. You will also have to pay INR 400 per Person as an environmental fee + 20 rupees per day as Inner line fee at the time of getting the permit. You can make your inner line permit to Pangong lake through online applying for the Inner Line Permit has made it extremely easy travelers, however, it should be noted that payment for the permit cannot be made online. For payment you need to take a print of the online form along with its copy and visit the following address - TIC Office, Opposite to J&K Bank main branch, Main Market.You can also make your permit through Travel Agents all we need is your one identity proof like Aadhar card, Pan card and Driving Licence
