Dha-Hanu (Aryan Valley)

Dha Hanu, Dha and Hanu are two villages of the Brokpa of the Leh District of the Indian State of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh. It is located 163 kms to northwest of Leh, the scape covers with the beautiful villages of Domkhar, Skurbuchan and Achinathang. Dha Hanu is the valley of pure Indo Aryan and they preserved their racial purity down the centuries They are the only two villages that tourists are allowed to visit out of a number of Brokpa villages. Dha-Hanu is situated at an altitude of 2700m (8858 ft) above sea level, therefore it is more warmer than Leh temperature, here rises up to 40 degree Celsius in summer and also helps in abundant vegetation. The community focuses mainly cultivation of apricots, grapes, walnuts and apples. Apricots seeds are used for producing oil . Famed as the ‘Land of Aryans’, these villages are home to Brokpa or Drokpa community of Ladakh.It is a belief that the residents of these villages were a part of Alexander the Great’s army. They came here more than 2000 years ago. The people of Dha Hanu have their own distinct traditions and customs, following the ancient Bon religion which provided the basis for Tibetan Buddhism
